In the summer of 1981, a young Greg Oakley, co-founder of Turtleson, heard a faint rustling in the woods. He followed the sound and discovered an old box turtle clutching a worn, yellowed piece of paper in its mouth.
Oakley gently fetched the paper from the turtle, and when he unfolded the paper he discovered an intricate design for a new type of performance polo. He looked back down and the turtle had vanished, but Oakley’s destiny had snapped into focus...
Why Turtles?

Okay, so actually none of that is true. But how cool would it be if that really was the origin story for the Turtleson brand?
In reality, the story is much simpler. Our co-founder Greg Oakley has been fascinated by turtles his entire life, so when the time came to start a new apparel company, he knew he wanted a turtle for the logo.
Going another layer deeper, though, a turtle perfectly represents what we’re building here at Turtleson. Turtles are known for longevity and perseverance. They’re intricate without being complicated. They don’t clamor for attention. And the closer you look at a turtle, the more amazed you’ll be by its design and detail.
