John-Baptiste Hakizimana
APGA Tour • Turtleson Player
Originally from Kigali, Rwanda, John-Baptiste Hakizimana’s path to professional golf speaks volumes about heart, grit, and refusing to give up. He immigrated to the U.S. when he was young and bounced between roles in golf — even working as a caddie after years away from full competition. Hakizimana turned pro early (2009), but it wasn’t always smooth. He stepped away at times, then returned to the game stronger. In 2025, he clinched his first APGA Tour victory at the Jefferson Health APGA Classic, winning by four strokes.
What stands out about him: He started playing golf in Rwanda with basic tools (sticks, broken clubs), teaching himself and forging a love for the game from really humble beginnings. He’s not just fighting for wins — he’s fighting for representation, inspiration, and showing what’s possible. He’s made strong showings in recent APGA Tour events — near misses and steady climbs before that breakthrough.
