A country club day can mean an early tee time, lunch on the terrace or dinner in the clubhouse. Dress for the part of the day you have planned, then check the club's current guest policy. A collared polo, tailored golf trousers and a removable layer are a useful starting point for many golf visits; dinner may call for a change of shirt, shoes or jacket.

At Turtleson, we build wardrobes for the course and the rest of your day. Here is how to put those pieces together with a little more confidence.

What should you wear to a country club?

Start with the invitation and the club's own dress code. Golf, the practice area, casual dining and formal events may each have different rules. Before you pack, confirm:

  • Whether collars are required and shirts must be tucked in.
  • Whether shorts, denim or hoodies are permitted in the areas you will use.
  • Which shoes are allowed on the course and inside the clubhouse.
  • Whether dinner requires a jacket, a tie or other specified attire.

If the wording is unclear, ask your host or the club. An outfit that works at one club may not meet another's policy.

A simple men's outfit for golf

Begin with a polo that gives you room to turn through your swing, then add tailored golf trousers or shorts if the club permits them. Choose footwear that meets the course rules. Keep colors easy to combine: a patterned polo with a quieter solid bottom, or a restrained stripe beneath a simple layer.

The Ballo Performance Polo is one option when you want lightweight jersey, stretch and a structured neckline. Its product details list moisture wicking and Turtleson's Standwell Collar. Compare the fabric, fit and collar of each style in our golf polo buying guide, then explore men's polos.

What should women wear for a country club visit?

For golf, consider a golf top with trousers, a skort or shorts that meet the club's requirements. Check any rules about sleeves, collars and length rather than assuming every golf outfit is accepted. For lunch or dinner, choose an outfit suited to the venue and the invitation; a polished knit with trousers can be a useful starting point for a casual setting.

From the course to lunch or dinner

For a casual meal where golf attire is welcome, a clean polo and tailored trousers can carry the outfit forward. Bring a fresh shirt if you expect a warm round, and check whether you need to change out of golf shoes or remove your hat indoors.

For a more dressed-up dinner, start with a sport shirt and trousers, then add the jacket or other pieces specified by the club. A quarter zip offers another neckline for a casual setting, but it does not replace a jacket when one is required. Explore men's clothing to build around the occasion.

Which layer works over a polo?

A quarter zip is useful when you want a collar that opens easily over a polo. The Issac Quarter Zip uses a cotton-rich blend with lyocell and polyester; the Maxwell Cashmere Quarter Zip offers 100% cashmere with ribbed collar, cuffs and hem. Choose by fabric feel, fit and care, then check the club's policy on the style you plan to wear.

Try the layer over your actual shirt. Reach forward, bend your elbows and turn through your swing. Our quarter-zip and golf layering guide compares options for cool mornings, travel and everyday wear.

Can you wear jeans, shorts or a hoodie?

There is no single rule for every country club. Some allow these pieces in certain settings; others restrict them. Check the specific area, time and event. If you cannot confirm the policy before leaving, pack an alternative such as tailored trousers and a collared shirt.
