For a cool morning that warms up by the back nine, start with a comfortable polo and add a layer you can remove easily. Choose each piece for the conditions, the movement you need and the rest of your day.

Build your golf outfit in three steps

  1. Start with the shirt. Choose a polo that feels comfortable on its own. Our golf polo buying guide explains what to compare in fabric, fit and collar.
  2. Add a comfortable middle layer. Consider a hoodie, quarter zip or sweater. Try it over the shirt you will actually wear and check that the sleeves and shoulders move comfortably together.
  3. Consider the weather. Add outerwear when the forecast calls for it. Check the individual product's weather-protection claims; a warm layer is not automatically a rain jacket.

When should you choose a performance hoodie?

A hoodie is an easy option when you want a relaxed silhouette that works beyond the course. Turtleson's Bellfield Hoodie uses a lightly textured performance fabric for comfortable warmth without added bulk, with a smooth interior and a classic fit with room to move.

Consider it for early tee times, travel and everyday wear. Check the dress code at your destination before choosing a hoodie for a round.

When should you choose merino wool or cashmere?

If you prefer a natural-fiber layer, compare the composition, weight and silhouette of the individual garment. Our merino wool guide introduces the fabric and links to the current selection. Explore merino wool and cashmere layers to compare the available pieces.

A crewneck, quarter zip and hoodie create different looks over the same polo. Choose the neckline and shape that suit how you dress, then check the product's composition and care instructions. Certifications and fiber claims should be read on the individual product page.

How should a golf layer fit over a polo?

Check the fit while wearing both pieces. Reach forward, turn through your usual swing and bend your elbows. Look for pulling at the shoulders or bunching in the sleeves. A comfortable combination gives you movement without relying on an unnecessarily oversized outer layer.

Start with the size charts and fit references, then use each product's fit notes. If you are unsure about a specific combination, ask our Bristol team before choosing a size.

What works for golf, travel and dinner?

Build around colors already in your wardrobe. Pair a patterned polo with a simpler layer, or keep the colors close and let texture provide the contrast. Choose something you enjoy wearing off the course, too, so the extra layer earns its place in your bag.

Care for the fabric you choose

Follow the label inside the garment first. Performance fabrics and natural-fiber sweaters can require different washing and drying routines. Read our garment-care guide before treating all your layers the same way.
